Where did the idea come from?
Our Foundation was founded by Monika Pacyfka Tichy, who previously coordinated psychological and transition assistance at Lambda Szczecin for 4 years. However, not everyone lives in large cities with an accepting and supportive local and regional government.
Lambda Polska will therefore respond to the needs of residents of small towns, the eastern wall and the southern heartland. These people often live hundreds of kilometers, i.e. hours of driving from the nearest support group. In addition, many of us need primarily individual help. Thanks to cooperation with psychologists working online and obtaining funds from various sources, we also want to provide them with help.
The name "Lambda" in Poland and Germany means an organization that primarily deals with assistance activities. In Poland, Lambda groups were established in the 1980s, and were legalized in 1990 as a nationwide organization operating in 15 cities; in 1997 it ceased its activities, and local centers continued it as separate entities (registered or informal). Currently, only two are active (Warsaw and Szczecin). There is no hierarchy or dependence between Lambdas, they work as independent NGOs.
